Position Description
Assists the pharmacist in various ways: helps with inventory management, floorstock maintenance, IV admixtures, gathering of Quality data, and other pharmacy-related duties
Job Duties:
- Assists the pharmacist in providing medication, drug information, and pharmaceutical services to patients, nurses, physicians, and other hospital personnel.
- Prepares intravenous solutions and admixtures using aseptic technique
- Cleans barrier isolator according to policy/adheres to current USP sterile compounding guidelines.
- Maintains inventory of supplies and reorders them accordingly
- Aids in the training of pharmacy technician students or new employees if needed.
- Participates in departmental and organizational Performance Improvement/Quality activities.
- Assists in gathering data for Performance Improvement/Quality reports
- Receives and stores incoming deliveries of medications and supplies
- Stocks/restocks EMS boxes and sends reports of charges to Accounts Payable monthly
- Performs restock of automated dispensing cabinets daily (Mon-Fri)
- Responsible for unit-dosing of tablets from bulk bottles.
- Prepares select reports as requested by pharmacist.
- Assists the pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical care for patients ranging in age from newborn to the elderly.
- Must be able to identify and understand that there are dosage variations between newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients and know to consult with the pharmacist if any doubts or questions arise.
- Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
- Maintains the pharmacy department in a clean and orderly manner
- Consistently completes assigned departmental duties throughout and/or by end of shift
- Practices effective time management and conserves expenses.
- Demonstrates ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Demonstrates ability to deal with problems involving several variables in particular situations
- Maintains a professional image of the organization in accordance with BMH policies.
- Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire safety, and infection control.
- Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
- Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
- Maintains an attitude that encourages retention through professionalism and respect.
- Participates in educational opportunities (certifications, in-services, etc.)
- Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with co-workers, supervisors, and physicians.
Education:
High school diploma or GED required. Pharmacy Technician certification highly desired.
Training/Experience:
Previous Experience is highly desired.
