Position Description
The Registration director is responsible for the day-to-day and strategic oversight of all patient access services at Taylor Regional Hospital, including inpatient, outpatient, emergency registration. This role ensures accurate data capture, timely insurance verification, and compliance with payer and regulatory guidelines, while promoting a positive patient experience. The Director plays a hands-on leadership role, working closely with a small team to cover essential functions and cross-train staff to support the hospital’s rural, healthcare environment.
Job Summary:
- Supervise all aspects of patient registration, admissions, and pre-registration activities across hospital departments.
- Ensure accurate entry of patient demographics, insurance, and financial information to support clean claims and reduce denials.
- Monitor daily registration workflows and actively assist during high-volume or short-staffed periods.
- Oversee insurance verification and eligibility checking, working closely with the billing department to correct front-end errors.
- Maintain compliance with EMTALA, HIPAA, and all applicable state and federal regulations.
- Train and cross-train staff to handle multiple registration functions across departments.
- Implement and monitor procedures for upfront collections, patient estimates, and financial counseling referrals.
- Serve as liaison with IT or EHR support (e.g., CPSI/TruBridge) to resolve registration-related issues and participate in system updates.
- Collaborate with the Revenue Cycle team to reduce front-end rejections and improve revenue capture.
- Maintain a strong presence during shifts to support staff, ensure coverage, and address patient access concerns directly.
Education:
Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s in Healthcare Administration or Business preferred
Training/Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in hospital patient registration
- As least 1-2 years of supervisory or lead experience in a healthcare access environment
- Working knowledge of electronic health systems and billing platforms
Skills/Qualifications:
- Ability to manage small teams effectively
- Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on patient service and staff engagement
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
- Knowledge of Medicaid, Medicare, commercial payer requirements, and authorization workflows
- Hands-on, adaptable leadership style suited for a small hospital setting
